LSU coach Brian Kelly speaks out for the first time after the death of player Kyren Lacy.
“Kyren was a brilliant star,” Kelly shared a press convention on Tuesday, April 15 to TMZ. “I had an incredible personality. I will not forget it as someone who had a love for the game, a love for being a tiger and was a guy who played with a wonderful emotion. “
Kelly, who has been LSU’s football coach since 2022, noted that when other people think of the wide receiver of the past, “they’re going to smile the most of the time because of the way he treated himself. “
“He’s a full energy guy,” he added.
While some of the players were scheduled to meet with the media after Tuesday’s practice, Kelly replaced them because he sought to give the players more time after Lacy’s death on Saturday, April 12.
“Everybody on our team has had, in a way, a date in other grades with Kyren,” the coach explained. “Everyone will treat you differently, so you’ll perceive first. There is no one way to feel.
Lacy’s family showed the LSU wide receiver’s death to the Louisiana Local WAFB Nine on Sunday, April 13, with no major points on his cause of death indexed at the time.
Less than a day after the tragedy was staged, Us Weekly received a police report from the Texas Harris County Sheriff’s Office, sharing that deputies responded to a disturbance involving Lacy and a female circle of family members “at approximately 11:15 p. m. on Saturday, April 12. “
According to the report, the disturbance concerned Lacy discharging “a gun on the ground” before leaving the facility, which is located in the Houston, Texas, area. A Harris County deputy then spotted Lacy’s vehicle “around 11:35 p. m. , which led him to attempt a traffic stop.
The report noted that “while attempting to apprehend Lacy and remove him from the vehicle,” Lacy “pronounced dead at the scene. “Lacy’s car was driving, registered and insured in her name. Thanking the authorities, Lacy died of an obvious suicide.

Lacy’s death came here days before it appeared before a jury on Monday, April 14, following his alleged involvement in a twist of fate of the car that lasted the life of Herman Hall, 78, in December 2024.
At the time, Lacy was arrested and charged with negligent homicide, hit-and-run, and careless driving. The authors believed that Lacy had possibly caused the twist of fate before fleeing the scene. The football player was released on $151,000 bail and maintained his innocence until his death.
